Madison County is located in the central portion of Mississippi. Madison County was formed on January 29, 1828. It was named in honor of the forth President of the United States, James Madison.

The county seat is Canton. Other Madison County communities include: Madison, Ridgeland, Flora, Camden, Gluckstadt, Sharon, and portions of Jackson. In it's first census in 1830 there were 4,973 residents listed. In the last federal census in 2000 the population was 74,674.
